Troubleshooting Teams Audio and Video Issues
### Microphone Not Working
1. During a call, click the microphone icon — check if muted
2. Teams Settings → Devices → ensure correct microphone is selected
3. Windows: Settings → Privacy → Microphone → Allow apps to access microphone → Teams must be enabled
4. Mac: System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Microphone → tick Microsoft Teams
5. Restart Teams
### Camera Not Detected
1. Teams Settings → Devices → Camera — select from dropdown
2. Windows: Settings → Privacy → Camera → Allow apps to access → enable Teams
3. Check another app (e.g. Camera app) — if that also fails, driver or hardware issue
4. Reinstall Teams if camera works elsewhere but not in Teams
### Echo During Calls
Echo is usually caused by a participant using laptop speakers while microphone is open:
- Use headphones or a headset
- Enable noise suppression: Teams Settings → Devices → Noise suppression → High
- Ask other participants to mute when not speaking
### Poor Call Quality
1. Run the network check: teams.microsoft.com/diagnostics
2. Use wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible
3. Close bandwidth-heavy applications (streaming, large downloads)
4. Lower video quality: click three dots in meeting → Quality → reduce resolution
### Teams Call Quality Dashboard (Admin)
admin.teams.microsoft.com → Analytics & reports → Call Quality Dashboard
Shows per-call metrics: jitter, packet loss, latency by user and location.
### Can't Hear Anyone
1. Check speaker selection: Teams Settings → Devices → Speaker
2. Windows volume mixer — ensure Teams is not muted
3. Test speaker: click the Test button next to speaker in Teams settings
### Pre-Meeting Device Check
Before joining any meeting click **Check audio and video** on the pre-join screen to test microphone, speaker, and camera before entering.
### Reinstalling Audio Drivers
If issues persist: Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers → right-click audio device → Update driver or Uninstall and let Windows reinstall.
