How do I use Google Vault for compliance and eDiscovery?

Set up retention policies, legal holds, and search email/Drive data in Google Vault.

Available on **Business Plus and Enterprise** plans.

### Access Vault

vault.google.com → Sign in with Workspace admin account

### Setting Retention Rules

Vault → Retention → Create rule → Select service (Mail/Drive/Chat) → Set duration → What happens after: Expunge or Do nothing

### Creating a Legal Hold

1. Vault → Matters → Create matter

2. Add hold → Select service and users

3. Data is preserved indefinitely until hold is released

### Searching and Exporting Data

1. Vault → Matters → Searches → New search

2. Set: service, accounts, date range, keywords

3. Preview results → Export for legal review

### Audit Reports

Vault → Reports → View who searched, exported, or modified holds
